| The potato crop has a very narrow genetic base, so the use of molecular markers is a very important tool in the characterization of germplasm banks and evaluation of genetic divergence. The objective of this study was to identify, using microsatellite or simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, 38 accessions of potato from two collections of commercial cultivars. For the molecular characterization 10 loci were used, generating a total of 46 alleles, which were analyzed as binary data. A cluster analysis was performed with the Jaccard´s similarity coefficient and the UPGMA method, using the software NTSYSpc. | Com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito de época de amostragem e da adubação potássica sobre a morfologia e partição de assimilados na batateira (Solanum tuberosum L.), foram realizados dois experimentos no campo: o primeiro para avaliar o efeito de doses da adubação potássica e o segundo para avaliação do seu efeito residual. Foram aplicadas seis doses de K no campo (0, 60, 120, 240, 480 e 960 kg de K2O ha-1) na forma de sulfato de potássio, em delineamento de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. | Tubérculos de batata das cultivares Eliza, Pérola e Atlantic foram armazenados a 2ºC durante 10 dias e, posteriormente, recondicionados a 15ºC por 10 ou 20 dias, de forma a verificar a eficiência destes tratamentos em reverter o adoçamento associado ao armazenamento a baixas temperaturas. O recondicionamento foi associado a uma redução nos teores de sacarose em todas cultivares, uma redução na atividade da sacarose-fosfato sintase e UDP-glicose pirofosforilase. Houve também redução na atividade da sacarose sintase, e redução temporária na atividade da invertase, o que não aconteceu de uma forma homogênea entre as cultivares. | ABSTRACT The fertilization of potato crops generally does not take into account the genotype, although genotypes may respond differently to fertilization. | As viroses que ocorrem com muita frequência em plantas de batata no Brasil são responsáveis por queda na produtividade, principalmente quando provocados por uma combinação de vírus. Para PVY e PVX o tipo de resistência usada é a imunidade, controlada por genes simples e dominantes. A pinta-preta, causada pelo fungo Alternaria solani,é uma das principais doenças fúngicas da batata em condições de alta umidade e temperatura, podendo causar até 73% de perdas na produtividade. | A new potato tuber disease has been observed in the Tulelake region, California, USA, since 1995, with tuber symptoms suggestive of silver scurf disease (Helminthosporium solani). In this work we isolated, identified and demonstrated the nature of the causal agent of this potato disease in California. In addition, the distribution of H. solani in potato fields and the inoculum potential at harvest time were investigated. Disease progress and H. solani spore populations were also characterised under commercial storage conditions. | Plantas de batata das cultivares Agata e Caesar debilitadas, com sistema radicular repleto de galhas e empipocamento severo nos tubérculos causado pelo nematoide das galhas (Meloidogyne sp.), foram detectadas em Contenda, município produtor tradicional do estado do Paraná. | Tubérculos de batata (Solanum tuberosum)-semente, pré-básica, básica, registrada e certificada, de oito cultivares, oriundos de 21 lavouras localizadas nos municípios de Vacaria, Canguçu, Piratini e Ibiraiaras, no Rio Grande do Sul, foram coletados nos meses de maio a agosto de 2002. Cada tubérculo foi lavado em água corrente, deixado secar à temperatura ambiente, perfurado com palitos em dez lenticelas, coberto com fina camada de óleo de soja, colocado individualmente em cima de folha de papel toalha umedecida dentro de saco plástico transparente e incubado a 23 ºC por quatro dias. | Estudou-se a influência da consistência do meio de cultura sobre a organogênese de ápices meristemáticos de batata nas etapas de isolamento e multiplicação in vitro, das cultivares Baronesa, Eliza e Pérola.
